Walk the Line | Bath

railway line Bath walk the line

Sally and I spent a weekend in Bath last March at the lovely Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel. Across the road from the front of the hotel are steps down to Sydney Gardens, where you can walk right alongside the railway line. I don’t know many places where you can get so close to an active railway line in this country and it was very popular with quite a few photographers and train spotters lined up along here when we walked over that bridge in the morning on the way into the centre of Bath. We returned later in the afternoon to find it empty, which was handy because the light was much better at that time and I took this shot of Sally walking the line.

Seattle | Space Needle and Mount Rainier at Sunset

Downtown Seattle Space Needle and Mount Rainier at sunset

When I visited Seattle in 2011 it immediately became one of my favourite cities and this iconic view was one that I just had to photograph while I was there. It’s taken from the extremely popular viewpoint of Kerry Park, where we had to arrive well before sunset to get tripod space in time for the best light. Only being there for a few days, we were very lucky to get such a clear day and be able to see Mount Rainier so well in the background.

Monsoon | Liverpool Street Station

Monsoon commuters at Liverpool Street station for Aday

This photo of commuters leaving Liverpool Street station on a rainy morning, six months ago today, was taken for a project called Aday. Photographers from around the world took photos of daily life on 15th May 2012 and uploaded them to the project website. Almost 100,000 images were submitted altogether and the best 1000 were selected, by a panel of photo editors, for inclusion in a book titled A Day in the World. I was honoured to have this photo selected for the book and am waiting for my copy to be delivered soon.
